Rivkah was an amazing woman. We remember her with fondness at the well, drawing water for 70 thirsty camels, and we remember her boldness, her bravery as she left her family home to marry a man she had not met. Her story begins with a foreshadow, a foreshadow about the bride and her devoted love for her groom. Yet by focussing on this one aspect of the Torah narrative about our matriarch Rivkah, we miss beautiful clues to Rivkah as a woman of God. Gifted, chosen and strong, Rivkah was positioned for her task as protector of the chosen seed of Yahweh. Far from being a bad mother, or vicious supplanter, she was commited to the will of Yahweh and had a deep relationship with Him and I’ll show you just how deep it was, through this teaching!
