The birth of Moses is coloured by the presence of the mothers of different nations. His mother Jochebed hid him in a wicker basket and placed him in the reeds of the Nile, while his strong sister Miryam stood resolute with the waters of the gentle river lapping at her feet. Her heart waited anxiously to know what would happen to her brother. Just as the moment was growing more desperate, the daughter of pharaoh and her attendants came down to the Nile to bathe and here we glimpse Divine Intervention in its fullness. Yet, the biblical narrative is silent on the identity of Pharoah’s daughter, her name is left out but her actions are forever present.
In this teaching we dive in to history to discover the identity of Pharoah’s daughter and by doing this, we come face to face with a woman who was both powerful and formidable. A woman now praised as someone we should all know, a powerhouse of leadership.
