Female Leaders in the Congregation of Philippi: Euodia & Syntyche

In Philippians 4, Paul greets two individuals whom he refers to as his co – workers, who have fought bravely for the gospel. The words he uses to describe these brave workers, are warrior language. Language that expresses a value and significance in their service for their kingdom. These two individuals were leaders in Philippi where the gospel had spread and taken root in a powerful way and these two individuals were women.

Over time, entities like the Catholic Church had an issue with the names of women that appeared in leadership roles in the earliest churches. So their names were changed and their stories erased. But this is changing, The Most High God is removing the dust and teaching us about these brave women. Their legacies speak to us, reminding us that women stories matter. This is Euodia and Syntyche’s story….
