She pulls the light towards her eyes. Her hands circle the Sabbath candles and with each passing movement, she stills her heart in the strength of God’s peace. She lifts the candlesticks and moves the light to the window sill that faces the passing street. The burning lights wave at the passers – by who pause in the beams of the light. They smile up at the one who is hidden from sight, they know that there lives someone who does not hide her light. The darkness of the road often blinds the weary workers yet they kindly tip their hats at the light that illuminates their way every Sabbath Eve.
She is a city shining on a hill, a city whose light can never be hidden, but it shines from the window sill even in the threat of a snowy winter’s chill. She does battle where no one can see, she is a city burning bright, shining even when darkness clings to the land and frost – covered hills. One with her knight, she knows the depth of the Sabbath light, she cannot be hidden because she is a heroine, a woman burning bright with strength of hand and valour of heart, she is God’s brave knight…
Shabbat Shalom!
