Tamar – Princess of Israel

The following article first appeared in Sarah’s Tent Magazine Spring 2013.
The book of Samuel narrates a tragic story that cannot help but leave us as readers, cold and sad. The reality is that the Bible is not a history book for the faint-hearted, neither is it a tall tale of make believe stories. Rather the Bible is a historically accurate reality that reflects the lives of people who made great endings and those who suffered the consequences for others actions.
Such is the story of Tamar, the daughter of Israel’s most beloved king, king David.
In the following article, I have sought to represent only what God laid on my heart, narratives like these are hard to deal with, but to understand them we need depth and Godly wisdom. May the story of Tamar touch you deeply in the places of your own heart and life where you have been let down. Where someone else failed you and left you devastated. May it touch you with the saving power and hope that there was once a “man of sorrows” who bore our shame upon the stake for mankind. He felt (and still feels) our pain, our sorrows and our sufferings. May you run into His saving Love and arms.
