Purim is a time of celebration! A time where children put on masks and costumes, the Scroll (Megillah) Esther is read aloud amongst shouts of boo (in honour of Haman!) and shouts of jubilation (in honour of Morechai!). However the story of Esther is much deeper then the costumes and the parties, then the fun and the shouting – it is a story of prepared, surrendered purpose.

I believe that sometimes in the midst of celebration and custom, we do not hear the whisper – the whisper of God and the whisper of purpose. The heroine we now know as Esther was in fact a woman of purpose, she did not know the impact of her own choices or the purpose of her own sufferings, but what she did know was that ultimately everything had to rest in “surrendering.” May you have a Purim filled with happiness and joy, but may this Purim guide you towards purpose, not parties; towards surrendering in lieu of celebration!
