In recent years, some Christian leaders have taken the short prayer of Jabez and turned it into a mantra for financial blessing; using it as a sort of “get rich quick” scheme. Unfortunately as truth seekers and bible scholars, we cannot accept this rendering of the Jabez prayer, because it simply is not true. True, God is interested in all areas of our lives; our finances included, however what is most important to Him is our heart and the pain we carry inside. Jabez or Yabets as his name is read in the Hebrew, was a man acquainted with grief and sorrow, a man who cried out for something specific out of a place of need.
