Last week’s Torah portion ended tragically. Bilaam was hired by Balak to curse the Israelites; however YHWH did not permit the hired villain Bilaam to curse His blessed people. The Moabites were undone, defeat was at their doorstep and their heads were hung in fear and defeat. Until Bilaam provided them with a plan. A plan which he hoped would invoke the anger of God and would result in the death of the Israelites as a nation and a people.One man was brave and zealous enough to stand in the ‘gap’ in order to protect the Honour of his God. One man acted in righteousness and courageous, that one man was Phinchas……..
